Los Angeles, CA – DENK gallery is pleased to present, UltraChrome Plus, a group exhibition featuring digitally printed works by 16 contemporary artists who often or exclusively use digitally processes in their artistic practice.
The show is a follow up to an earlier exhibition in 2004 titled UltraChrome that featured work exclusively produced on the Epson 9600 archival inkjet printer. UltraChrome refers to the ink set developed by Epson to produce archival inks with a wide chromatic color space.)
The current exhibition, UltraChrome Plus, still includes UltraChrome prints yet expands beyond to include a -ranging representation of digital printing processes now used by so many artists. The show includes Lambda and light jet prints, 3D printing, dye sublimation prints as well as UV inkjet prints.
The concept of the exhibition may sound like an exercise in different printing each of the processes can produce such different outcomes the resulting artworks not only have a completely different visual feel but also invoke different concepts in art making.
When the original UltraChrome exhibition was shown, now 15 years ago, digital printing processes were not as widely accepted in the art world as they are now. The follow-up show, UltraChrome Plus explores how artists use the ever-expanding technological advances to create a wide variety of individual concepts and approaches to art-making.
