Rodrigo Valenzuela in group exhibition at Greg Kucera Gallery in Seattle 2.22.17
Paintings, Sculptures and Prints
June 1 – July 17, 2017
Opening reception: First Thursday, June 1, 6-8
Artists concerned with America’s strained relationship to its domestic helpers on the home front and menial workers on the business front. Whether Nanny, Gardener, or Caregiver, the American family cannot do without the help of these workers. Many businesses, both large and small, could not survive without their Busboys, Maids, Guards, etc.
This is an historical topic dating back to the first European explorers and settlers in America using forced or indentured labor. Clearly, there are no quick fixes to the complex issues surrounding immigration, naturalization, living wage except, perhaps, common decency.
Participating artists: Juventino Aranda, Jack Daws, Ramiro Gomez, Patrick Kam, Paul Rucker, Alison Saar, Betye Saar, Joyce Scott, Roger Shimomura, John Sonsini, Rodrigo Valenzuela, Kara Walker, and Lynne Yamamoto.
