Black Artist Retreat: Reflections on Conveying is a collection of interviews and short essays that reflect on the creation of platforms in the absence of one. Theaster Gates details the early beginnings of the Black Artists Retreat and why after five years it’s time to reflect.

In celebration of Gates’s new book, there will be a reception at BING Art Books Gates will be in conversation with artists Mike Cloud and Andrea Chung discussing the practice of retreating and creating collectivity.

Light fare and refreshments will be served
